I am a Junior at Penn State majoring in Meteorology with a concentration in Weather Risk Management. I am also pursuing a minor in Energy Business and Finance. My interest in weather began in 2004 when I started watching The Weather Channel’s coverage of that year’s remarkable hurricane season, which started with none other than Hurricane Alex. While my academic studies focus on atmospheric science now, I still have a passion for many other physical sciences as well as mathematics and engineering. Currently I a work as a tower worker at the PSU Meteo Department and a tutor at the Morgan Academic Support Center for Student Athletes. I also serve as a Shift Manager for the Campus Weather Service and the THON Chair of the Theme Park Engineering Club. Outside of academics, I enjoy swimming and am a member of the Penn State Club Swim team. After graduating, I plan on finding a job in the private sector or potentially attending graduate school. I am looking forward to being your webmaster this year!
Hello, my name is Seth Cohen and I am the Vice President of the Weather Risk Management Club. I am a junior majoring in Meteorology in the Weather Risk Management Option and a minor in Energy Business and Finance. I grew up in Rockville, MD outside of Washington, DC. Growing up, I would always get excited when we would get snow days at school, but especially when a big blizzard was on the way. This eventually grew into a broader passion of the weather, and decided that it was what I wanted to pursue at university. I decided to come to Penn State because the reputation of the department precedes itself. I am also involved in other clubs and organizations here at Penn State such as Campus Weather Service, PSUBAMS, Aish Penn State, and Penn State Chabad. I am excited to work with the board and make this a great year for the Weather Risk Management Club!
I am currently a junior majoring in Meteorology with a Weather Risk Management option. I am also pursuing a minor in Energy, Business, and Finance. I am from Collegeville, Pennsylvania, a town right outside of Philadelphia. My interest in Meteorology began at a very young age. I was about 7 years old when I knew I loved the weather. Before school, you could catch me watching the weather channel, and during every storm, I was outside. As I grew older, I learned that Meteorology was a major I could study and that is what I have confidently pursued since then. I didn’t know of the Weather Risk Management component of Meteorology until I came to Penn State and decided to check it out. Ever since I took my first Econ class sophomore year, I knew this was the option for me. Some day, I hope to work for an energy company because that is a particular interest of mine. At Penn State I am involved in Infinity THON organization where I am the secretary, member of PSUBAMS, and on the OPPerations THON Committee where I am the fundraiser chair. Outside of school, I am on club gymnastics, a tutor back at home, and a gymnastics coach. I look forward to a great year in the Weather Risk Management Club and excited to serve as your secretary!
My name is Andrew Markowitz and I am a sophomore majoring in Meteorology at Penn State in the Weather Risk Management option. I also plan on pursuing a minor in Energy, Business, and Finance. I was born and raised in Wilmington, Delaware. I have been interested in the weather since I was in preschool because I loved tracking snowstorms and watching the Weather Channel. I always knew that I would grow up to be a meteorologist, and I decided to come to Penn State because it has the best meteorology program in the country. I knew the Weather Risk Management option was perfect for me, because I’ve also been interested in business and finance since I was young, thanks to my grandpa. I am also the webmaster for the Penn State Storm Chase Team, and am a member of the College of EMS Student Council and THON, the OPPerations THON committee, the Penn State Campus Weather Service, and Penn State Hillel. In my spare time, I like watching and playing sports and travelling all around the world. I look forward to serving this club as the treasurer for the upcoming year!
I am currently a sophomore majoring in Meteorology in the ‘general’ option, but am strongly considering weather risk and pursuing an Energy, Business, and Finance minor. I was born and lived my early years in the city of Boston before moving to Cohasset, a coastal town about 20 miles south of the city, where I have lived ever since. I have been interested in weather for as long as I can remember; my oldest memories include staring at the “weather beacon” on top of a tower in Boston when I was two years old. I have held onto my passion ever since, charting and forecasting the weather, especially the infamous Nor’Easters, which have always been my favorite. I always knew I wanted to study meteorology so when it came time to pick a school, I chose Penn State because it not only has the best program in the country, but one of the most powerful alumni networks too. As far as organizations within the major, I am also involved in Campus Weather Service, PSUChase, and PSUBAMS. Additionally, I am VP of West Halls Residence Association, Sustainability Chair for Association of Residence Hall Students, and I play in the Student Hockey League as well as the Club Floor Hockey League. I am excited to serve as this year’s webmaster, and I look forward to everything we accomplish in 2017!
